HOW THE QUEEN CITY GOT ITS' NAME?

Charlotte first began in 1755 when Thomas Polk, stopped and built his home at the crossroads of two Native American trading paths between the Yadkin and Catawba rivers. One of the roads was what is now Trade Street. In the following years, the area grew. In 1770, the town's streets were layed out in a grid pattern. The east-west path became Trade Street, and the north-south Great Wagon Road became Tryon Street. Charlotte became officially incorporated as a town in 1768.

Both the town of Charlotte, which is currently city, and Mecklenburg county were named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the German-born wife of British King George III. The name was picked to win popularity with the king. Though stressful relations between the United Kingdom and the town increased when King George imposed unfavorable laws on the town's people because of their wish for independence. In 1775, the town supposedly signed a Declaration of Independence. This is the date that is inscribed on the North Carolina state flag.

The city's first population boost came after the Civil War. The town was a railroad hub and cotton processing center. The population significantly increased during World War I.

The city's banking industry gained popularity in the 1970s and 80s. Presently, Charlotte is the second largest banking headquarters in the United States behind New York City. (By control of assets.)

Surprisingly, Charlotte is North Carolina's biggest city and is the seat of Mecklenburg County. The population of the city of Charlotte is roughly 700,000 and is the 19th biggest city in the United States. The metro area has a rough population of 1.75 million. Charlotte's nickname is the Queen City.

Initially a second company was formed call Charlotte Fence Company. After building hundreds of fences in the Charlotte area, the Charlotte Fence Company name was established and we did not want to lose the base of customers who knew Next Generation Fences as Charlotte Fence Company. Charlotte is only a 2 hour drive from Raleigh.

We cover Inidan Trail, Kannapolis, Concord, Huntersville, Mooresville, and the greater Charlotte area. Because of our fence builder's success, we planed on expanding our business once again.
